Subject: [mythtv-users] server and mythtv

I am upgrading my desktop to a total of 280GB hdd space and 1GB + 256MB RAM
and I am going to use that as my web/mysql server and mythtv box. What would
be your recommendation for a distro for those purposes on the same box? I am
thinking Gentoo because I like the way you can control everything and the
way MythTV installs. I like Ubuntu for the ease of use, but I don't like the
way MythTV is installed and set up. Fedora makes MythTV easy as pie, but
sometimes does things in a funky way from other distros(IMO). I haven't
tried MythTV on FreeBSD, but I have used it as a web server and loved it.
Fast and simply installing the ports made everything work together. So, what
do you all think?
Also, I have a 200GB  and an 80GB drive. Would it be better to use LVM and
if so, how much space should I set aside for my / if I want to use the rest
for MythTV storage?

Hi Timothy,

Considering that this is your desktop machine, surely you want the distro
that you're most comfortable with and like the best? MythTV can install on
most desktop linux distro's quite painlessly. I wouldn't pick a distro just
because it's easy to install a certain app on it..

Just a thought.
