I'll second this. I've been running ddclient for so long (several years) 
that I forgot it was even running - I had to log into my smoothwall box 
to check to see if that was in fact how I maintain my dyndns.org account 
(it is). I haven't touched it in at least 2-3 years, and it's never 
failed me. The only way I ever know my IP has changed is when I try to 
ssh home from work and I get the message about storing the new address 
in known hosts.
