Actually, it's "--do-channel-updates" in SVN for consistency, now, 
because of a patch I sent in...  http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/1731  
(Of course, I didn't realize that was the option I had changed when I 
told you to use it, though.  Your mention of consistency triggered my 
memory.)

Best bet is to delete all the channels from the lineup and then run it.  
That will clean out a bunch of old garbage.  As a matter of fact, you 
may even want to just use mythtv-setup to "Delete All" your video 
sources (which will delete channels) and clean everything up.

No.  It's only useful for listings changes.
