Well at least half of this stuff is not needed for a mythbox (although
you may want some for your VNC use). You probably don't need, for
example, the avahi daemons, bluetooth, cups, cups-daemon, firstboot,
haldeamon, hidd, irqbalance, kudzu, isdn, readahead, readahead_early,
sendmail, or smartd. You probably do not need httpd either (unless you
run mythweb).

Use the KDE 'start' button and open 'System -> Services will start a
neat GUI which can give you explanations of the services. I ended up
turning off readahead and readahead_early as neither seemed to speed up
the boot process. Most of the rest I don't need: I don't use bluetooth,
don't have a multi-speed CPU, don't use isdn, its not a portable and I
have no raid drives, etc. etc. I don't make any present use of anacron
or cron, but the system needs those.
