[mythtv-users] sound works for some files not others? 0.19 and FC4

Hello all,
Newbie questions here. I'm following the wilsonet.com tutorial (awesome,
btw. Jarod, if you read this - thanks). I've got everything going fine,
except sound. I'm using a PVR-350 to record (but not playback). It records
the mpgs, but when I try to watch TV, I get no sound. Some possibly relevant
output when watchimg livetv:
Warning, unable to set recording volume
This is normal if you have an AVerMedia M179 card.
VIDIOC_S_CTRL:: No such device
...
2006-07-03 23:22:43.133 AFD: Opened codec 0x919f8d0, id(MPEG2VIDEO)
type(Video)
2006-07-03 23:22:43.167 AFD: Opened codec 0x919a5d0, id(MP2) type(Audio)
2006-07-03 23:22:43.172 Opening audio device 'default'.
The part that's confusing me, is that when I run
/usr/bin/aplay /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Startup .wav
I get sound just fine. Also, when I record TV from the commandline with
cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test_capture.mpg
mplayer -vo xv /tmp/test_capture.mpg
I get sound too!
If I load up a mythtv .mpg from mplayer, I get (as far as I can tell)
identical codec information, but I still don't get any sound. Here's the
relevant output:
Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 384.0 kbit/25.00% (ratio: 48000->192000)
Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)
...
alsa-init: using device default
alsa: 48000 Hz/2 channels/4 bpf/65536 bytes buffer/Signed 16 bit Little
Endian
AO: [alsa] 48000Hz 2ch s16le (2 bytes per sample)
but no sound. Can anyone help me out at all? I'm running out of ideas...
Thanks in advance!
Peter L.
