[mythtv-users] dynamic switching between alsa:default and alsa:spdif

That a _very_ good question! I wish somebody would answer it, as it appears
people have it working through the mysteries of asoundrc. (Yet xine and
mplayer seem to do this automatically, xine better than mplayer). This
seriously needs a wiki or FAQ entry.

Subject: [mythtv-users] dynamic switching between alsa:default and
alsa:spdif

hi,

mythtv is great!

ok, now for the questions: =)

I have a sbLive audio card (emu10k1),
alsa:default output works nicely,
alsa:spdif output works nicely.

What I would like is a way of dynamically toggling between the two
(without going to the setup screens).

Best would be a kind of alsa-device by way of a cunning asoundrc.
I realise that this question would be more suitable on an alsa-list but
I thought I start here, because:

a solution that works for mythtv only would also be nice.

Or maybe it is impossible to "re-route" a running audio stream in alsa?

cheers,
stefan
