You have better control of overscan running nvidia-settings compared to
using overscan directive in xorg.conf. Run `nvidia-settings` as the user
you will be running X and myth as, there is a slide to adjust the
overscan to your liking and save.
Save will create ~/.nvidia-settings-rc

I had to add to add /usr/bin/nvidia-settings --load-config-only & to my
~/.xinitrc so each time X loads it would apply the settings.

I found, I had to adjust overscan while a recording was playing. If I
adjust the overscan when say a mythfrontend menu was showing and then
played a recording there was a black border around the recorded show
with the distorted edges of the broadcast that your television overscans
for you. In my ~/.nvidia-settings-rc I have 0/TVOverScan[TV-0]=18 which
is quite high but I still see a small black band around 1cm across the
bottom of the playback. I haven't made the overscan higher because I am
already beginning to cut off the mythfronted menus.
