Well, something must be wrong here. I haven't had any problems  
getting any version of MPlayer to play NUV files, with or without  
RTJPEG. VLC runs those files just fine as well, on Windows, Linux,  
and OS X.

Kinda. If you mean record directly to AVI, I don't think that's  
possible right now. Probably some kind of special metadata stashed in  
the NUV container (there has to be SOME kind of reason to stick with  
NUV over something else). If you mean just go from NUV to AVI,  
without actually changing any of the video data (IE changing formats  
from RTJPEG or MPEG2 to something like MPEG4) then that's a piece of  
cake.
mencoder <input file> -o <output file> -ovc copy -oac copy
Or just open the file in VLC, use its export option, choose not to  
transcode the audio and video, and choose the output format (You  
want .mpg, not the MPEG PS or MPEG TS). That's how I convert my stuff  
so I can burn it on a computer with a DVD burner.

Well, doesn't MythTranscode use the Transcode app? If you don't want  
to actually transcode the data, then just change the transcode app  
line to use the Video Codec "copy" and the Audio codec "copy."  
MythTranscode should handle commercial cutting out too.
