I run my frontend on a 32" SDTV CRT, and I sit about 10 feet away.  The preview is about big enough to get the jist, but superfluous all the same IMHO.

The dilemma (for me at least) is the following:

1. Some people like verbose descriptions of recorded programmes, so the text area needs to be as big as possible

2. Some people don't get verbose descriptions, so they see a lot of wasted space.

3. Some folks would rather have a bigger preview window at the expense of everything else.

You can please some of the people, some of the time... (etc).  ;-)
