I'd be using the kernel raid capabilities and just use the SATA card to
connect the drives to the mobo.

I agree, about the 3Ware. I'm using the 9500S-8 on my file server. Truly
impressive performance.

Here's the question. Would software RAID tax the CPU too much? So much
that I would have to bee careful what I do with the MythTV system?
