And I know the answer to this one too :-)

Comment out the three lines in the .htaccess that mention zlib ie
# php_value zlib.output_handler           Off
# php_value zlib.output_compression       16384
# php_value zlib.output_compression_level  4

That then gets mine to work for http://localhost/mythweb/mythweb.php
but the links don't work so something's still wrong with the rewrite.
