I had a similar problem after upgrading to 2.6.15 kernel due to changes 
that were made in the 2.6.15 kernel. For my sound drivers, I had to 
upgrade to the bleeding edge ALSA (1.0.11rc3) to solve the problem 
(rolling back the kernel to 2.6.14 worked as well).
