[mythtv-users] Anyone have access to PowerStrip?

Unfortunately, I don't.... But apparently it has a category of
predefined timings labelled "EIA/CEA 861B".

I'm trying to get my Sharp Aquos 37" LCD to sync properly. Sharp tech
support is properly unhelpful:

Them: "We don't support PC connections."

Me: "But your manual tells me how to use a DVI to HDMI cable to connect
my PC to your monitor."

Them: "Yes, but you're on your own. We don't support that."

I uttered a few words about deceptive business practices and they
promised to get back to me. I'm not holding my breath. On the bright
side, at least I didn't get the ubiquitous "What OS do you use? Linux?
Oh, we don't support that...." :-)

I've been through the HDMI spec and I can't get hold of the CEA-861B spec...

Anyway, per the HDMI spec a 60HZ HDMI sink *shall support* 640x480p,
720x480p, and if it supports HDTV capability, *shall support* 1280x720p
or 1920x1080i all at 59.94/60 Hz.

So I guess that leaves little wiggle room for HDTV makers.... *Shall*
is instructive, the manufacturers must support those modes. Per the
HDMI spec, the Sharp *shall support* 1280x720p.... The HDMI spec also
states that the detailed timing information is found in EIA/CEA-861B.

It seems to me that we should be able to put together some HDMI
modelines that work for any/all HDTV sets.... Anyone have that EIA/CEA
spec handy?

Thanks,

--Yan
