Currently, even a dedicated backend that never runs a frontend must have 
X *installed*, but X does not need to be *running*.  Basically, Myth is 
dependent on QT and QT is (currently) dependent on X.  As Myth moves to 
QT4 (which separates QT into different modules allowing you to install 
only non-GUI modules without X dependencies), it's possible that this 
dependency will be removed.  However, this is not yet a priority:
