I've used ffmpegX to do this, it will basically do anyvideo-to- 
anyvideo. It uses ffmpeg, mpeg2enc and mencoder to do the work, but  
it's a very nice intuitive graphical interface (drop your file on the  
input and pick an output format from a dropdown list. What could be  
easier?
