This question is based on an earlier thread about usb vs nfs:

Ok, Let me start out by saying that I don't have any direct experience
with this, but from what I've read I think you'll be better off with
NFS. The USB bus tends to be unstable on many systems when dealing with
large files (which I have experienced) and is more CPU intensive. USB
uses your CPU more than other transfer methods. A quick search on usb
v.s. firewire will give you some good articles if your interested.
<snip>
I've an external drive (300GB) with both usb and firewire interfaces,
and on account that usb2.0 can go upto 480mbps (in theory at least)
I've the disk connected via the usb interface. Now this said post made
me re-think that, perhaps I should put my firewire link back in place,
and yank the usb cable.
From the above, I infer that iowait goes up for heavy use on usb2.0,
and I wanted to have an opinion whether iowait would be reasonable for
the same size i/o activities on firewire.
I can give it a try, but please feel free to comment.
Many thanks in advance..!!
