If your PVR-500 uses Samsung tuners (like mine), ivtv 0.4.2 doesn't currently 
work properly with it.  There is a patch available; I posted to the list a few 
minutes ago with a link to it.

(You might want to start monitoring the ivtv-users list, too, as the PVR-500 is 
still a bit more bleeding-edge than a PVR-250 or -350.)

That said, most channels come in OK, but channel 45 still has a fair bit of 
interference.  Since that's SciFi around here, that's a bit of a problem. :-( I 
might try plugging in my WinTV-PVR-USB2 (currently sitting idle) as a 
workaround until it's straightened out.  (I've already removed the splitter 
that was feeding the cable to a PVR-350 and PVR-250MCE.  There's another 
splitter upstream that now feeds a cable modem, an HD cable box, and the 
PVR-500MCE.)
