I just wanted say that I fixed it -- it did have to do with the
refresh rate.  The samsung dlp gave back a modeline that was slightly
off 60hz (59.96 - or something like that).  I guess it was causing
mythtv to drop frames to catch up.  I put in a new modeline that was
60Hz -- and everything worked.  The modeline was from the list of
common mythtv (ModeLine "ATSC-720-60p" 74.25 1280 1320 1376 1650 720
722 728 750).  Hopefully this will help someone else.
