Holy cow, it really was this simple, and here I was messing with it for
the longest time.  /dev/adsp1 isn't even an option for the mythtv-setup
recording options (it auto-detects /dev/dsp and /dev/dsp1), but I
manually typed it in and it worked.  Thanks.  You're my hero.
