I just installed a CM8738 card and it worked ouf of the box, with xine
too (although it previously worked with a sblive). I just specify
ALSA:spdif as the audio device and put

audio.speaker_arrangement:Pass Through

in .xine/config

I assume you checked

Can you play an SPDIF wav file using aplay?
