[mythtv-users] heartbeat for mythbackend?

Is there anyway to get mythbackend to write a heartbeat to the log file?

I seem to have come across a couple of lockups where the backend is still
_running_ but it isn't doing anything useful. I can restart the service easy
enough, but the only real clue as to that it is happening would be if the
log file is not updated for X seconds.

Can this be done?
