So, I found a version of FFMPEG linked from the VideoLan site.  I managed
to get everything working by compiling that, then compiling VLC with
--disable-mad and --disable-libmpeg2.  Changed mystreamtv.sh to point to
/usr/local/bin/vlc, and all works dandy now.
