Have you considered creating a VPN between your two locations?  
That way you could have a static IP address for each machine on the 
private subnet, and would be able to access all of the ports on the 
remote machine without having to worry too much about hackers.  The 
OpenVPN package works quite well between two DHCP-addressed 
machines and uses UDP (as opposed to IPSec) so performance is 
pretty good.  All you need is for at least one end to have a fixed 
domain name.  Once you have a VPN you can treat the machines as if 
they were sitting in the same room.
