[mythtv-users] transfering files between remote backend and local frontend

My backend is remote, and not even on my lan. I have a high speed
internet connection in front of both my backend server and the machine
from which I run the frontend. Apparently, this is too slow to allow
watching LiveTV or recordings. When I try, I get this:

type(Video)

long to be allowed to read..

So, assuming that this is a problem of speed, what do I do about editing
my programs so I can export them to dvd? Is there a way to automatically
transfer the files from the server to my frontend machine? Can I
schedule this some way to happen overnight, and have the database keep
track of where my files are actually located? Then I could make my
cutlist and export from my frontend machine, which is the one with the
dvd writer anyway.
