I was running transcode_0.6.14-15.rhfc3.at_i386.rpm from atrpms on my
FC3 machine, which gave me the green thumbnails. I followed one of
the links above which said:

1. transcode-1.0.2 must be compiled with --disable-xio. (atrpms has
--enable-xio, freshrpms appears to use --disable-xio)

so I downloaded transcode-0.6.14-1.1.fc3.fr.i386.rpm from freshrpms at:

http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/freshrpms/fedora/3/transcode/transcode-0.6.14-1.1.fc3.fr.i386.html

and ran

# rpm -U --oldpackage transcode-0.6.14-1.1.fc3.fr.i386.rpm

Now I have thumbnail pictures instead of green-ness and can go to sleep happy!
