I am in the process of building a slavebackend/frontend system with the
PVR-350 and PVR-500.  Have not reached the step you are on yet.

Still trying to verify that the PVR-500 is working correctly.  The
PVR-350 is working just fine using the dd tests for both recording and
output to the TV.

Did you use similar tests for the PVR-500 in your configuration?  The
tests on my PVR-500 appear to either not have the right input source
selected (I cycled through 0-8) or the channel is not selected
correctly.  Did not appear to be able to select the correct channel with
ptune-ui.pl either.
