[mythtv-users] Re: Need suggestion for Frontend only fanless solution

I have a 1.42GHz Mac Mini, with 1GB of RAM. It doesn't have the horsepower
to support HD MythTV frontend functionality (for MPEG2 HD material, for
MPEG4 or AVC HD material it wouldn't even come close).

The Mini has a Radeon video chip, so it could offload MPEG2 processing. But,
Apple does not provide open APIs for this. Their DVD player can/does use the
MPEG2 acceleration, from back in the days of 300MHz CPUs which couldn't keep
up with DVD decoding. But, no other apps can use it. That's really
disappointing, because with MPEG2 accel, the Mini would make a great MythTV
frontend.
