I agree, if its for a backend go for speed speed speed.  Get the drive with 
the fastest RPM, the largest cache and fastest interface you can afford e.g. 
7200rpm SATA.  If possible get the fastest PCI-X SATA card you can find and 
you'll break the PCI bottleneck.

If it's for a frontend get a 4400rpm >60gb laptop HDD with a 2.5"-3.5" IDE 
adapter.  It'll be nice and quiet.  Don't use anything less than a recent 
60gb HDD or the noises made by the heads when in use will drive you nuts.

Hallo.
I'd go with the faster drive.  There could be more heat and more
power draw, but it will make sure that you won't have any issues
later down the line if you add extra tuners, etc.

And everyone has a war story about a different brand of hard drive.
Get one with at least a 3 year warranty.  Seagate, I believe, has 5
year warranties now but I'm not sure.
