[mythtv-users] No sound with DVD playback

I don't think that you can do what you're looking to
do (at least not very easily).

The PVR-350 audio input is meant as a capture.
Therefore, if you use it's audio inputs, that implies
that you're capturing video on the S-Video or the
composite inputs.

You would need to have the sound come out of the sound
card, capture it with the PVR-350, and then play it
back as an MPEG file, overriding what currently comes
out of the card. There will be syncronization issues.

I suppose you could try capturing the DVD over
S-Video/Line-in, and play it back as it comes in
(something like cat /dev/video0 > /dev/video16). To
do that, you'd have to play the DVD out to another
source first (like a VGA card), and have a cable
hookup.

Long story short - it will be difficult to do, and
might even need changes to the ivtv driver.

If you're willing to give up the MPEG-2 decoder and
use Xv for playback, then everything will come out of
the sound card. You still get decent looking output
(better than any nVidia card I've used), but then
you'd have two sets of audio cables if you want to use
the MPEG-2 decoder.
