I can't help you with the transcode, but I can say that I have not had
problems with the DVD. I used dd to copy the disc image to my hard
drive, and I can play the resulting ISO file just fine with kaffeine
(which is just a wrapper for xine). I have libdvdcss 1.2.8 and
libxine1 1.0.1.
