Thanks Bill.  It is a few months ago now so I can't really remember what
state I was in.
   I certainly was set for remote as I have another frontend working.
   Don't use firewall as its all on local LAN.
   Windows XP SP2 fully updated so I guess that includes .Net
   Not sure about DSMyth at the time or indeed which version.
I will give it another go tonight.
