Do you have more than one display attached ?

If so, then this is what caught me. The frontend would run at the resolution 
of my primary display, and not the display it was actually running on. 
Somewhere there's a setting for selecting which xinerama screen to use, 
change this to 0 for the primary, 1 for the secondary, etc.
