irxevent is just an app that uses lirc -- "native lirc" isn't a
special mode or daemon or anything. It's just a casual term for
compiling Myth with lirc support (the RPMs are built with lirc
support) and specifying mythfrontend as the "prog" in your lircrc
file. You can use Myth's lirc functionality and irxevent together. I
use irxevent to run a shell script to start or stop mythfrontend, and
send the other buttons to Myth directly.
