Can you reproduce this with plain tzap?
If so, please enquire on the linux-dvb at linuxtv.org mailing list.

I have a similar problem with a Nova-T-like card, which won't tune one
particular channel first. I use dvbtune from an init script to tune to
a known good one so that I can guarantee mythbackend will start
successfully. I can reproduce this with tzap (it's not a myth issue).
