[mythtv-users] 20+ GB .nuv files

Hi,

When I first set up MythTV 0.16 I had massive .nuv files. When I set the
picture size to be smaller they became reasonable. I put it down to the CPU
not being able to keep up (Was 700MHz then with WinTV card, writing
to /myth/tv over 100Mbps NFS mount, now 1.5GHz CPU).

If it can't keep up does it start writing lots of key frames? This could
account for the jump in file size people see.

Start off with a small resolution, and if that works start working back up to
what you'd like. Set up manual shedules to record 1 min of TV.

What would be nice is a script that runs in a loop tweeking the config for a
given profile, e.g. "High Quality", and record 1min of video for each with
the Res as part of the recording name. The script should then be able to
check the res/size for each and calculate the break point. I can write a
Perl script to do it if someone can point me at the location the res is
stored.

Despite the 1.5GHz CPU I now have in the box I still record at 384x288 as I've
got to take the lowest spec Frontend into account.

Regards,
Mark
