Turned out to be a partial patch fragment that was causing the problems - part 
of one of the recently submitted subtitle patches by Ian Caulfield I think.

An "svn revert -R ." fixed the issue. I'd earlier reverted the patches but 
obviously not noticed a couple of hunks failed.
