If you're using mplayer to watch TV shouldn't you be asking on the
mplayer mailing list not the MythTV mailing list?  Myth has output
filters to clean up the video, who knows what mplayer has.

There's no reason why the Hauppague can't look just as good as
straight from the antenna.
