[mythtv-users] No listings on remote MythFrontend *solved*

Ivor,

I ran mythepg -v and the output to the shell console window said:
mythtv: could not connect to socket
     mythtv: Connection refused
lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages
     Error loading image file: /usr/share/mythtv/themes/Titivillus/
You don't have any channels defined in the database
     This isn't going to work.

So I jumped out of the EPG, and decided to use the 'find' command (that I
just learned the proper usage syntax for) to find the 'mysql.txt'
configuration file. I found that there were two "mysql.txt" files on the
system. One of them looked right (/etc/mythtv/mysql.txt/), with the
correct info for the mythtbackend address, and the other looked like a
'plain vanilla' file pointing to localhost (/usr/share/mythtv/mysql.txt).
It would appear that 'mythtv-setup' was updating the wrong file, because
once I updated the other file with the backend server's IP address, the
listings are there...

Perhaps mythtv is using both files? After all, the 'browse' function
worked before updating the other mysql.txt file and I *was* able to watch
live tv and recordings. The 'workaround' would probably to be to delete one
of the files and create a symbolic link to the 'real' file for the one that
was deleted, right?

Nevertheless, I think I'm still going to 'scrub' the system and install
FC2/MythTV from scratch. That way it will match my backend system in terms
of 'look & feel' and usability of the underlying OS.

Thanks for your reply -- I was able to fix the problem in just 5 minutes
with your help!

Jeff

Hmm weird. Do you get anything if you run mythepg? also try running
with verbose logging and bringing up the program guide and see if it
tells you what it can't do. can't recall the exact '-v' setting so use
  mythfrontend --help.
