Yes, as sold, you would need to use it as a frontend. It seems to be 
very well suited for that task. If you want to add a tuner card, you 
would need to use a USB tuner, like one og the Elgato units:

The EyeTV500 is HDTV (no Broadcast bit), but rather pricey. -Chuck-
