[mythtv-users] native lirc support?

Does mythtv have working native lirc support?  I'm using version 
0.16.20040906-1 from the Debian repository (below).  When I launch 
mythtv, it connects to lircd and then disconnects.  What's the deal?  
All my other lirc programs work.
