In a word.. no

MythTv is a complete PVR suite of software incorporating a player,
recorder and scheduling amongst other things..

VLC or VLS are not. Whilst it can't be denied that VLC is one of the
best Mac apps going. ( especially at the price) it doesn't do what
mythTV was designed to do.
