This again sounds like the problem I had last year. See here, maybe this is 
also your solution/workaround:

But I wonder why this only happens with certain hardware and/or setups. Maybe 
someone who knows more internals can post some information?
Since this problem seems to arise frequently, maybe this should be put 
somewhere in the sound FAQ?
