Make sure that you are set to the proper TV type in mythtvsetup (NTSC,
PAL, ATSC).
For a while I had mine set to ATSC while I was working on adding an
Air2PC HDTV card, and when I forgot to switch it back my WinTV card
showed up black and white in Myth, even though it worked fine in
xawtv.
