Use avidemux 2.036 (I think the later ones are still a touch buggy)
Open the nuv file.
It should say 'this looks like mpeg do you want to index it'
say yes (!)
It then pops up a dialog asking about the audio - always hit 'scan file
for audio stream'
It'll tell you what you've got in there (I get mpeg audio with a shift
of 79ms. Remember the shift)
It then pops up another box to say 'we have a shift of 79ms between
audio and video'
Hit OK
You can now edit out adverts.
I assume you know how to do this? ask if not
You won't be touching the video stream so ignore the options on the LHS
under Video.
Under audio:
* select FFm AC3
* hit configure and select the audio bitrate you want
* hit A Filter and tick the timeshift box and enter the time shift you
saw earlier - but negative. I use -79
* hit A Process (it sticks in)
[avidemux will pass the audio and video streams through, untouched apart
from cutlists, unless you turn on 'A Process' or 'V process']
Under Output Format select Mpeg A+V
Now hit save and save the file as film.vob.
It's now ready to be dvdauthored...
