I meant _hardware_ raid (and I really meant, cheap, on-the-motherboard 
RAID) is a waste of time :)
Proper hardware raid is probably overkill but hey, let he who is without 
sin...

Instead you should use the linux raid subsystem (md devices)

I actually run a 1.2 TB raid 5 system with 6x250GB sata disks (and a 
250Gb spare too!)
*when* (not if) one of them fails (again) the hot spare kicks in and I 
end up not losing a single show.
Not only that, I'm covered in case another one fails whilst I'm waiting 
for the RMA process (as happened once!)
