Thanks much, this fixed the problem with tvtime and /dev/dsp . . . I can 
now hear delayed audio through /dev/dsp when watching video with tvtime 
(just what the MythTV documentation says should happen).  However, I 
still get no sound in MythTV, using /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer as the sound 
devices.  I'm still poring through mail archives, though I haven't come 
across anything that worked for me yet.  Any other suggestions?
