[mythtv-users] Why the need for a Decoder?

Does anyone know if the digital DVB cards are going to make it to
Europe?

I have 2 Nova-T's and they are great. I also have an AverTV DVB card,
and to say it sucks would be a gross understatement - it just can't tune
into even a strong signal (Nova-T gets 5/6 multiplexes in London fine,
AverTV can only tune to one well, one badly, the rest no hope).

I second that, dvb-t (digital FTA) is the way to go in OZ.
I have seen dvb cards for $150 at computer fairs in Canberra. The
cheapest ones are usually just fine, often they have crappier PVR
software but hardware wise they are pretty much the same (dont quote
me..). All they do is spit out a stream, the software does the rest, and
with excellent software available for linux (MythTV, vdr etc) you dont
care about the bundled stuff.

FYI: I use a Hauppage WinTV Nova-T, which works great (including the
remote).
