Thank you for the suggestion, Nate. I think I have found the source of
the problem:
--- CUT HERE ---
root at pvr:~ # mplayer /myth/video/X-Men\:\ Evolution\:\ Fun\ and\ Games\
\[09-18\].mpeg
MPlayer 0.92-3.3.2 (C) 2000-2003 MPlayer Team
CPU: Advanced Micro Devices Duron SF Spitfire (Family: 6, Stepping: 1)
Detected cache-line size is 64 bytes
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 3DNow 3DNowEx SSE
--- CUT HERE ---
(so it was compiled for x86 CPU, but I am playing it on a AMD) Later on
the following error comes up:
--- CUT HERE ---
MPlayer interrupted by signal 4 in module: video_read_properties
- MPlayer crashed by an 'Illegal Instruction'.
It usually happens when you run it on a CPU different than the one it
was
compiled/optimized for.
Verify this!
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. For details, see DOCS/bugreports.html#crash.b.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc
version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/bugreports.html
and follow the instructions there. We can't and won't help unless you
provide
this information when reporting a possible bug.
--- CUT HERE ---
So I can either recompile the mplayer the KnoppMyth ships with
(KnoppMyth comes with all the source code to do that), but I am actually
getting a new motherboard today, which is an Intel x86 chipset, so I
will proably just wait for that :-)
Thank you for pointing me int the right direction1
