This is a simplification written in lay terms so that the intended
person can understand it. Please don't nitpick my answers ;-)

It is only an analog tuner.

Not necessarily. See below.

Most cable companies (that I have experience with anyway) broadcast
analog up to about channel 60 or so. The bandwidth above channel 60 (or
so) is then used to provide the digital channels that you need a cable
box in order to watch (simply speaking). Probably the easiest way to
test this is to plug the cable directly into a TV and see what cable
channels you can receive. These should then be the same channels you
can receive using the PVR-350 tuner. If you wish to record the digital
cable channels you will need to connect the audio/video cables from the
cable box to the PVR-350. Doing this you will also need an IR blaster
or some other means for MythTV to change the channel on the cable box.

I haven't been following this thread. Has anyone asked to post your
ivtv version and modprobe.conf? If not, please do so. It may be
misconfigured. Also, did you follow Jarod's guide
http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php to get your system setup?
