[mythtv-users] Capture screen black

Very close to completing Debian unstable, Haup. 250 MythTV install.

I know this issue has been dealt with before, but none of the solutions 
I have
found solved it for me.

Watching Live TV gives a black screen and no audio.
doing  cat /dev/video0 > file.mpeg   gives a black screen movie.

the drivers for ivtv are all installed and the modules loaded correctly 
(afaik).
I have changed the settings for the test_ioctl option '-p' from 0-9
according to this FAQ entry:

Can someone tell me how I might debug this problem? Which logs to check?
How to ensure that everything is working correctly?

Is there any other information I need to provide?
